Confined spaces are a dangerous place to work. Sadly, people die every year because of working in confined space, and everything must be done to ensure safety. The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) states that employers are responsible for making sure their staff are safe at work. This is reinforced even further by the Confined Spaces Regulations (1997). If you are considering completing a confined spaces training course, then read on to find out why it is a sensible choice.
What Is A Confined Space?
Before you begin considering a confined spaces training course, you should know precisely what a confined space is. It is defined as anywhere with restricted entry or exit, so areas such as tunnels, manholes and vessels. Before anyone works in a confined space, a risk assessment must be completed. This is because you need to identify any hazards and know the right precautions to take.
Why Do I Need A Confined Spaces Training Course?
Because confined spaces are dangerous, it is essential that you are able to accurately assess the risks involved. Proper training such as a confined spaces training course means that you will be competent and knowledgeable in working safely. Not only is it a legal requirement for employers to ensure that all employees are appropriately trained, but it helps to keep everyone safe. Hazards that can be found with confined spaces include gas and fumes, drowning, flammable vapours and entrapment. Appropriate training will equip you with the knowledge on how to avoid these situations and handle them in a safe and controlled way.
Here at Morsafe Limited, we have a range of confined spaces training courses available. They cover everything from the management of confined spaces operations to complicated rescues. For more information on our courses and to discuss which is best for you, get in touch with our team of experts.
