A Man who had been dangling upside down from a 290ft chimney for more than 14 hours has died, police have said. First responders scrambled to the chimney in Carlisle after the alarm was raised by locals at 2.20am. Footage emerged showing the man, who appeared not to be wearing a top, hanging by his legs from Dixon’s Chimney after witnesses reported hearing shouting and wailing.
Cumbria Police said the man, aged in his fifties, had died shortly before 5pm. A police spokesman said in a statement: “We can confirm that a man who was trapped at height on Dixon’s Chimney in Carlisle and later recovered during a multi-agency operation has been confirmed as deceased.
